Aries March 21 - April 19

Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac, is ruled by Mars - the God of War. He is the creator of ambition in the Self of every individual, or thing, born into creation. Their keyphrase is "I AM" and their keyword is "activity."

The glyph for Aries is that of the ram. It is cardinal energy which means, in short, action-oriented. It is a fire sign and brings on the Spring every year.

Aries identities are tied up in leadership. It isn’t that they want to lead others so much as they are not followers. They are trail-blazers and are known for their courageously taking the initiative in any venture or adventure. They are sometimes quick to anger, but just as quick to get over whatever triggered them and move on.

Aries energy manifests as impulsiveness and executive ability. Some of it’s more negative manifestations are being domineering and abrupt. The lesser evolved Aries lacks follow-through, always starting something, but not always finishing it.

These Rams are fighters. You won't find many of them backing down from a conflict. It's not that they are starters, or maybe they are, but being assertive is often stretched to being belligerent - having to make a point or having to be right about something.

Almost all Aries are very independent in some ways, and even competitive. It is a dynamic representation of the ONE.

Taurus April 20 - May 20

Taurus, the bull, is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and charm, aesthetics. art and culture in it‘s various forms; music, paintings, jewelry, drama, harmony, color. Her influences are evident in every interaction involving feelings from the heart.

The keyprase for Taurus is “I HAVE” and their keyword is stability.

Taurus rules the 2nd house, which is about values, financial affairs, possessions, investments and earning power.

Taurus is fixed energy, made of Earth. They are patient and dependable. Some negative qualities of a slow-to-change Taurus might be that they are possessive, greedy, materialistic. And we’ve all known one or two who’ve been stubborn as can be. That’s what fixed energy means. Being of fixed energy myself, I find it’s reasonable energy - knowing what I strongly like and strongly don’t like.

People with this sun sign are good organizers and accept responsibility easily. They seem to acquire and maintain possessions easier than any other sun sign in the zodiac. All earth signs are builders - manifesters of the zodiac. They are also big helpers to all other elements in the zodiac in the manifestation of their goals.

Gemini May 21 - June 21

Gemini, sign of the Twins, and 3rd house lord, is the first air sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Mercury.

The key words for Gemini are “I THINK” and think they do. Their keyword is “versatility.”

Gemini’s have an almost insatiable curiosity on any variety of things, all at once. If it is combined with it’s ruler, Mercury, in Gemini, it is a non-stop communicator. Information in and information out all day long. Mercury is never far from the Sun, so it is common for the planet that rules the mind and communication, to be together with the Sun in Gemini. Developing a meditation routine can help relieve the tension of a stressed mind. Exercise is also good for using the body’s natural stress reliever - endorphins - to counteract an over-active mind.

Gemini rules the third house, which shows the local environment you live in, your bothers and sisters and all forms of communication, such as speaking and writing. It also indicates modes of transportation, including short trips. It’s area of influence is the conscious and objective mind and one’s primary education.

The mode of being Gemini is mutable. That means that unlike cardinal, which is action-oriented energy, and unlike fixed energy which is stable and unchanging, mutable energy goes with the flow. Mutable signs, such as Gemini, have great flexibility and change directions, plans, or their minds very easily.

Cancer June 22 - July 22

Cancer, the Crab, is ruled by the Moon, and inhabits the 4th house. It is the first cardinal sign in the zodiac, and the first water sign too. Cancer’s key phrase is “I FEEL” and the keyword is “devotion.“

Cardinal energy is action-oriented; takes the initiative in any endeavor. When combined with watery Cancer, the emotions are what spurs these leaders into helpful industry.

Some positive descriptions of the typical Cancer person would include tenacity, intuitive, maternal, domestic, sensitive, retentive, sympathetic, emotional, patriotic and traditional. They are known for having good memories.

Some of Cancer’s negative qualities can be displayed when they aren’t playing to their strengths of nurturing maturity. Those qualities are touchiness, selfishness, and feeling sorry for themselves.

Cancer rules the 4th house which shows the home and parents in the birth chart, the family you came from (your roots), and the home you will establish as an adult. Your roots are the legacy you inherited, your ancestry, as well as the psychological roots and your private life.

The 4th is the house of endings; the end of a life, the end of matters, the place of burial, and possibly fame after death. It is sometimes is telling about one's Mother, but it mainly means where you found your unconditional love in your early childhood conditioning, if you found some, and I hope you did. That could have come from anyone; most often it’s the Mom of the house.

The Moon’s influence in our birth chart represents our domestic, nurturing urge. Some other important areas of our life that the Moon rules is our relationships with all women in general. It rules our instincts, habit patterns, tides, phases, receptivity, fluctuations in feelings. The Moon also governs personal interests, desires, needs, magnetism, growth and fertility, the need to touch, impressionability, and consciousness. It ruels liquids, commodities, sailing (of course), brewing, nursing, trades-people and the public in general.

Leo July 23 - Aug. 22

Leo, the lion, is fixed energy, rules the 5th house, and is the king or queen of romance. It’s key phrase is “I Will”, and they do. No need to tell this leader what to do, but very often they will be the ones telling you what/where/when and how to do what needs to be done and when/where/how to do it.

Leo is ruled by the Sun. It is expansive and fiery, creative and active energy. It is masculine energy, yet childlike and generous in spirit.

In all of our charts, the Sun is the main expression of the individual. It shows our qualities of leadership and success. The Sun rules our health, vital principles, authority, rank, title, sense of identity, and capacity for experience. As the Moon rules the feminine principle and governs our relationships with all other females, the Sun governs the masculine principle and our relationships with all other males, starting with the father.

Some of the more positive characteristics of Leo energy can be described as idealistic, proud, ambitious, dignified, self-assured, optimistic, romantic, and dramatic. When Leo is backsliding into negative behaviors, one might witness their vanity, their boastfulness and pretentiousness, an autocratic and overbearing demeanor. They could be provoked into childishness if they are underappreciated.

Leos give of themselves with a good and generous heart, but you had better tell them thank you. It really is for your own good to show gratitude anyway, and especially to a Leo who knows exactly how to indulge your appetites.

Leos natural house is the 5th house, which shows children, love affairs, romance, amusements, holidays, games, hobbies and avocation. It includes our emotional attitudes and the love we give. The 5th house shows enterprise, sports, originality and all the creative outlets like dance, theater, literary or artistic abilities. The 5th house also shows publication, politics, social affairs, and the education of children.

Being that Leo is fixed energy, it is also known for it’s stubborn opinions, and the strength of it’s likes and dislikes which have very little flexibility.

For March 2008,

Virgo Aug. 23 - Sept 22

Virgo, another mutable sign, Earthy, sensual and passive, is ruled by Mercury and inhabits the 6th house. It’s key phrase is “I ANALYZE” and their keyword is "practicality."

Mercury is the planet that rules communication in our chart, how we process and then express what we know, and also how we express ourSelf. As Virgo’s ruler, the identity of the individual is related to thoughtful, practical living.

Some of Virgo’s more enlightened characteristics are ego-less service to others. They are generally found to be industrious, studious, scientific, methodical, discriminating, exacting, clean and humane. They seek perfection - which could be good and bad, depending on how it is applied.

Some of the more negative qualities that are attributed to lesser evolved Virgos would be that they can be critical, petty, melancholy, picky, pedantic, and have a huge fear of disease and poverty that other Sun signs do better at keeping at bay.

Virgo rules the 6th house - which is the house of service and servants. You will find more Virgos in service professions such as nursing, social work, or teaching than any other sun sign. The identities of Virgo have a lot to do with serving others in all capacities. It is a selfless sign, able to draw boundaries when necessary. Sometimes tough love is the best solution to getting people to help themselves.

They have the ability to size up a situation, or a person, very fast. It is why they are known as perfectionists at times. Their Mercury antenna picks up on things that are amiss very quickly, and instinctively know how to fix what’s wrong - in themselves and in others.

Libra Sept. 23 - Oct. 23

Libra, a cardinal energy Air sign, rules the 7th house in the Zodiac. Libra is ruled by Venus and it’s key phrase is “I BALANCE.” It’s keyword is “harmony.”

The glyph for Libra is the scales. The deeper meaning of that glyph is that they see and weigh both sides of any story. Being that it is an air sign, there is a certain amount of detachment that comes with the element of air. It can objectively get an answer, or a solution, to matters. The emotions are not necessarily a factor in their decision-making process.

Librans positive characteristics: cooperative, persuasive, companionable, peace-loving, refined, judicial, artistic, diplomatic, sociable and suave. What I notice about them, is that it is a reflective personality, that serves to mirror Beauty in Others. That’s where all these keywords come into affect. I like to say, “we all sit up a little straighter when Venus is in the house.” She adds charm and grace to all social situations.

If you witness some of the negative polarity in them, and we all have a negative polarity within (yin/yang), you might witness a Libran’s fickleness, or apathy, or that they are easily deterred and indecisive. They might want peace at any price.

The negative qualities are a mirror reflection too. It is why we instinctively show our best side when Libra people are in our orbit. We like to see pretty reflections. Venus’s glyph is that of a hand-held mirror.

The 7th house, which is Libra’s home, shows both business and marital partnerships, divorces, contracts, lawsuits, bargains, agreements, and any dealings with the public and the public’s response. It shows open enemies (as opposed to the hidden ones in the 12th house), as well as your cooperation, or lack thereof, with others.

Not all Libra sun people are married, but it is a strong indication that if your natal Sun is in Libra, you will find a mate and settle in. They like companionship in all they do.

Scorpio Oct. 24 - Nov. 21

Scorpio occupies the 8th house of the zodiac, and is ruled by Pluto. It is fixed energy and very implacable in nature. Their key phrase is “I DESIRE”, and their keyword is “intensity.”

Scorpio is a water sign. Water signs are emotional, intuitive, responsive, sensitive and deep. They easily take on the moods of others so they are to be especially mindful of the company they keep.

Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler, is lord of the underworld. It is why Scorpio individuals are usually unflinching when facing the sordid, or more negative side of life. There is beauty reflected in Libra, but Scorpio knows, firsthand, what lies behind the reflection. It penetrates through the appearance of things and plumbs the depth of intentions. It sees the 7 deadly sins and ferrets them out into consciousness - where they can be transformed into virtues - from darkness into light.

Scorpios make excellent investigators and scientists because of their tenacity in getting to the truth of a matter. And they are often found in medical, and non-traditional healing, type of jobs. They can look at an ugly wound, or the ugly memory you have, and treat it much easier than some of the other signs. It’s that Pluto thing again; unflinching at the sight of trauma and ugliness. Seeing beyond it.

The 8th house, Scorpio’s home, is one of death and transformation, spiritually, mentally, and physically. It is about tearing down the old and rebuilding, and going from the dead of winter into the new life in the spring..

Sagittarius November 22 - December 21

Sagittarius, is the 9th house host. It is ruled by Jupiter, the lord of expansion and light. It’s the sign of the archer and their key phrase is “I UNDERSTAND.” Their keyword is "visualization."

Sagittarius is a fire sign. These signs are ardent, enthusiastic, spontaneous, self-sufficient and romantic. If they are misused, they can be bossy or too forceful. It is also a mutable sign, which means it is changeable and subtle. Mutable energy goes with the flow, is versatile and sympathetic energy.

Sagittarians are known for being straightforward and philosophical. They are freedom-loving and broadminded in their highest forms. You will find many athletes under the archer’s sign. It is dexterous and quickly able to adapt to whatever the moment is calling for. They have generous spirits and their optimism is infectious. Sagittarius is described as just, scholarly, and possibly religious.

If Sagittarius’s negative characteristics flare up, you might catch them being argumentative or braggadocios. They can be self-indulgent, procrastinating, blunt, impatient, and pushy. But, hey, can’t we all?

Jupiter is Sagittarius’s ruler, The identity of this individual is tangled up with leisure time, the higher mind, optimism, morality, prosperity, growth and indulgence.

Sagittarius, and the 9th house, are advocates for higher education, philosophic reasoning, higher aspirations, sports, luck, and long distance travel. They have a fondness for animals, and also hunting.

Jupiter’s action is orderly and promotes health and growth. Where you find Jupiter in your chart is where you, as an individual, will expand mentally, physically and spiritually. Sagittarians take that expansive thinking with them wherever they go.

Capricorn Dec. 22 - Jan. 19

Capricorn is the builder of the zodiac. It is also known as the Seagoat or Goat. Saturn is Capricorn’s ruler and the key phrase for this sign is “I Use.” The keyword for this Earth sign is “ambition.”

Capricorns are cardinal signs. Cardinal energy is action-oriented - taking steps as soon as they have the ideals in mind that they want to manifest. They are called the builders of the zodiac because they have the tenacity to stick with a project from the ground up. They don’t mind starting at the bottom. In fact, a challenge only spurs them on to doing better, to perfecting themselves.

Capricorn’s house is the 10th, which is the house of honor and substance. The 10th house in any chart shows the profession, your reputation, and your standing in the community. It indicates your ego, status, fame, promotions, business and social activities. It also reflects how the world sees and evaluates you.

The 10th house, and therefore Capricorn, is ruled by Saturn, the lord of karma. Capricorns know all too well what consequences are. They know you get back what you put out.

Some of Capricorn’s beautiful qualities are that they are cautious, responsible, scrupulous, conventional, businesslike, perfectionist, traditional, practical, hardworking, economical, and serious people.

Un-evolved Capricorns display negative characteristics such as being egotistic, domineering, unforgiving, fatalistic, their monkey-mind rules the heart. They can be stubborn, brooding, inhibited, and status-seeking.

Capricorn is a Universal planet. It’s integrity is wound up with what is best for humanity. They are more likely to display their positive characteristics because of Saturn’s unmistakable influence in their lives, strongly urging them to act upon what they know to be right.

Aquarius Jan. 20- Feb. 18

Aquarius, the water bearer, is an air sign, occupies the 11th house, is fixed energy, and ruled by Uranus. It’s key phrase is “I KNOW” and the keyword for Aquarius is "imagination".

The glyph for Aquarius is waves of water or electricity. It is a sign known for it’s originality and inventiveness. It is individualistic energy, progressive, humane, logical, and for the most part, altruistic. You can find many artists and scientists with this sign.

Some negative characteristics that manifest in the thoughtless Aquarian would be their unpredictability and eccentricity. They can be temperamental and bored by detail. This sign’s negative polarity has a cold feel to it and may be impersonal in dealings.

Fixed energy, as Aquarius is, has strong likes and dislikes. It is known for being stubborn and resistant to change.

Uranus is known as the awakener. Where you find it in your chart, which house, will show you just where your liberation and awakening will be. Uranus as Aquarius’s ruler has the effect of flavoring their personality with a penchant for shocking others. There’ll be no stale air when Uranus is around. He dances to his own beat - which is idealistic, brotherhood of man and all that is humane about existence.

The water bearer is the 11th house lord. The 11th house colors any planet in it by birth, or transit, with circumstances beyond one’s control. The keywords for 11th house is “social consciousness.”

Pisces Feb. 19 - March 20

Pisces, the fish, is ruled by Neptune, and lives in the 12th and last house of the Zodiac. The Pisces key phrase is “I BELIEVE” and their keyword is “understanding.”

Pisces is a water sign, meaning instinctive and emotional. It is also a mutable sign, which goes with the flow, is adaptable and changeable.

Some characteristics of the Pisces personality are that they are compassionate, charitable, sympathetic, sacrificing, intuitive, introspective, musical and artistic.

If you catch a Pisces person on their bad side, you might see them procrastinating. Or, they can be over-talkative, melancholy, pessimistic, emotionally inhibited, timid, impractical, lazy, and they often feel misunderstood. They can give off the impression of having a victim mentality.

Pisces people are the often found as the backbone of service organizations that help man help himself.

On the whole, this is the strongest, wisest sign in the zodiac; having gained the solar experience in previous lifetimes of all the other sun signs, and bringing those Neptunian visions into an organic whole for manifestation.

It isn’t all light and fluffy being Neptunian, or 12th-house-inclined. This placement of the Sun can show suffering and sorrow, limitations, handicaps, secrets, seclusion, frustration, and spiritual debts to be paid.

In Buddhist doctrines, the saying "to live is to suffer" is a 12th house given. The mechanism that is triggered by that understanding, in wise Pisces, is that it takes compassion for others and an evolved way of interacting within the organic whole of Source for the creation of a life worth living.
